Cross Cut Sled

IMG_3253.JPG

My first cross cut sled I built out of all pine and it was small, bare bones and started to cup and warp. I decided I would upgrade to this beast of a sled that will stay flat and has just enough accessories to do a great job, but they don’t get in the way. I made this out of 3/4'” Baltic birch plywood to ensure it would stay true and flat and it is easier and cleaner to work with compared to MDF. I used some T-Track and hold down clamps from Rockler and a top track and swing stop from Kreg.

I calibrated the sled using the 5-cut method and was able to get it within 0.001”/inch. That is more than enough for me. I then added a miter sled attachment that can cut near perfect miter joints! This is important because I have always struggled with miter joints (not having a miter saw makes them tougher than you would think). I made that with scraps from the sled and used the equal square method to get it to almost a perfect 45° angle!
