Wine Holder

I started this wine holder as a gift for my mother in-law. I showed my wife a similar product I saw on Instagram, but it was only for 2 glasses. She asked me to make one for 4 glasses. I was excited to take on the project and started right away.

The first step was to figure out what wood I would use and how big it would be. I decided to use walnut for the center, padauk for the accent pieces and hard maple on the outside. I laminated them together with wood glue and hand planed it flat using a Stanley SW No. 4 smoothing plane. I then sanded it smooth using my random orbital sander. The next step was to bore the holes needed to hold the glasses and bottle. I used a drill press to ensure they were straight.

After that I cut the slots, the hardest part by far. This took some creative jigs and my crosscut sled. Then I used my Japanese pull saw to cut a relief on the hard edges. I finished it with a chamfer using my trim router and a low-angle block plane. I then sanded it all to 220 grit and finished with Walrus Oil. Please leave a comment on what you think!
