Wine Holder
Wine holder project
This project started when I saw a few of the surfboard style wine racks on Instagram. I showed my wife thinking they were cool and she instantly asked me to make on for four glasses fr her mom as a Christmas gift. I said yes, loving the idea of being able to make a gift. I started with choosing the wood and the orientation. I ended up going with walnut in the center, then padauk and hard maple on the outside. I laminated these together with wood glue and then hand planed it smooth. I then went to the drill press and bored the center hole for the wine bottle and the smaller holes for the glass stems.
I then took it to the table saw to cut the slots to slide the glass into the hole. I then tried a few different cuts to relief the glass slots. I ended up with the design seen below. I gave the holes and edges some relief with s chamfer using my trim router and bock plane. To finish it, I sanded it to 220 grit and used Walrus Oil. Let me know what you think!
